Jill Long Thompson Spoke in Ft. Wayne About Plans For the Economy

Jill Long ThompsonFriday, October 10 Jill Long Thompson spoke to a full house of supporters at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers on Saturday morning. Jill introduced her comprehensive strategy for growing the economy and creating good-paying jobs across the state, today Jill Long Thompson visited communities in northern Indiana touting her economic recovery plan.

Long Thompson highlighted various components of her One Indiana Plan. The 56-page plan includes proposals to jumpstart Indiana’s economy, including provisions to overhaul the state’s tax structure, create green jobs, protect the environment, improve the state’s infrastructure system, lower health care costs, strengthen the state’s education system, make college more affordable, reduce home foreclosures and spur new economic development in distressed communities.

“Heading into the final weeks of this campaign, the choice could not be more clear: Four more years of the disastrous polices of George W. Bush and Mitch Daniels, or a fresh start and new direction,” said Long Thompson. “I am running for Governor to use my experience and background to rebuild our economy and put more Hoosiers back to work.”

Jill Long Thompson speaks with Barack Obama to Hoosiers in Indy

In front of over 21,000 Hoosiers ready for change, Jill and Senator Obama laid out their visions for the future of Indiana and held George W. Bush, John McCain and Mitch Daniels accountable for the economic mess facing our country. The event comes on the heels of the WISH-TV (Indianapolis) poll that shows Jill within striking distance of Mitch Daniels. This is the third poll in the past two weeks showing Jill within the margin and on the brink of defeating a well-funded Bush ally.

Jill can beat Mitch Daniels, but not without your help. Indiana needs change. Over the past year we've lost over 64,000 good-paying jobs and Indiana ranks in the top ten in home foreclosures and bankruptcies. The Bush-Daniels era of de-regulation and economic disaster has to end.

Jill will be a partner in change with our next President, Barack Obama, to build an economy that works for Hoosiers. By creating new jobs that pay good wages, growing new green jobs that can't be shipped overseas and lowering the cost of healthcare, we can turn the page on the Bush-Daniels economy and bring Hoosiers the change they so badly need.

To bring that change, she needs your help. Go to her website - www.hoosiersforjill.com - to contribute and volunteer. As the people from this web site have talked with Township Trustees, workers in their offices and those working with people in need, we are more aware than most of the distruction Mitch Daniels has made with his privitization program. It has hurt peple and it has to stop.

Jill Long Thompson Calls For Daniels To Release Travel Records: Gives 48 Hour Deadline
Daniels used state plane for personal travel and to promote re-election campaign - both prohibited by state law.

Jill Long ThompsonFort Wayne International Airport, Monday Sept. 8 at 1:00pm A week after her campaign urged Governor Mitch Daniels to voluntarily release his travel records and reimburse Hoosier taxpayers for any campaigning done at their expense, today Jill Long Thompson called for full disclosure within the next 48 hours. The story misuse of the planes was first covered in the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette and to this point, Governor Daniels has not had and acceptable explanation for some of his travels at state cost.

There were about 45 people and the press to hear Long Thompson request the release of all relevant records so that voters will have a full accounting of these matters. It does appear that the governor has been using state resources for his candidacy and other uses while the people of the state are having difficulty just paying for gas for their own transportation.

Wednesday, Sep. 3, 2008: Mitch Daniels talks about discipline in school. “It is to say if it’s necessary to remove a child, expel a child, stop a fight, you can do it and know that the law and your state government will stand with you.” Well Mitch, Indiana already provides that teachers may take necessary measures to ensure student compliance by providing that school personnel stand in the relation of parents - in parentis loci - to the students. Sorry Guv, the state already stands with the teachers. It is time our state stepped forward with a plan that will help students.

Jill Long Thompson has a better plan for education that will make a positive difference. One more reason to vote for Thompson-Oxley. Learn about their Education Plan here.

Long-Thompson visits Fort Wayne and introduces Dennie Oxley as running mate
- John Good

Jill Long-Thompson met with a small crowd near Fort Wayne International Airport to introduce Dennie Oxley as her choice for Lieutenant Governor. A short meet and greet took place before Rep. Win Moses took the podium to introduce Long-Thompson, who then in turn, introduced Oxley. Both candidates spoke for several minutes about their vision for the state of Indiana.

Long Thompson:

"Dennie's legislative career demonstrates that he is an effective leader and a champion of working people. His experience in the legislature, in the classroom, and in the business world will be put to good use. He's exactly the kind of Lieutenant Governor we need to help bring new prosperity and opportunity to communities across Indiana."

Oxley:

"Jill is a proven leader with executive experience - and I'm honored to partner with her to fight for better opportunities for all Hoosier families. Together we will work to grow our economy, protect good-paying jobs, lower health care costs for working famiies, strengthen our schools and overhaul the entire tax structure to make Indiana more competitive."

Oxley was first elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1998, and represents portions of eight southern Indiana counties as well as serving as Majority Whip for the House Democratic Caucus.

What we have to say about Dennie Oxley for Lieutenant Governor

Jill Long Thompson - The Change We Need

Keep Talking and sharing what you know about Jill Long Thompson
because once Hoosier voters learn more about her background and policy positions, the race can go beyond a tie with 45 percent supporting each candidate.

"We couldn't be more pleased with our position heading into the summer," said Travis Lowe, Long Thompson's campaign manager. "These numbers reflect what we hear all across the state. Hoosiers are not happy with Mitch Daniels' leadership, and they are looking for change." They must know Jill is the change.

"The fact that his campaign has poured millions of dollars into television over the last few months, and these numbers are still as bad for him as they are, says a great deal about his vulnerability," added Lowe. "Hoosiers aren't buying what Mitch Daniels is selling."

Jill Long Thompson can win with our help. Do not let the presidential election divert us from supporting JLT and all other Democrats who, if elected, can make a positive difference locally, in Indianapolis and in Washington D.C.- that includes Michael Montagano who is running for congress.

Jill Long Thompson at the Democratic Luncheon Club

JLTJill Long Thompson spoke at the Democratic Luncheon Club Wednesday, March 26 at the American Legion Post 82, Harris Road at Goshen in Fort Wayne. The always personable and friendly candidate shared her memory of when the personal income in Indiana was higher than that of the national average. Today it is much lower and she wants to help get this state back on a track that will help regain that positive economic stability instead of Indiana being third in the nation in mortgage defaults.

One reason that our state is failing to keep up is that one third of our youth are not finishing high school and this is unacceptable. She is deeply concerned that No Child Left Behind has left too many children behind. Schools need flexibility and Indiana needs to invest in effective vocational education programs so that more students will graduate ready for the work place.

The health care policy does not help children or many others and she would reinstate collective bargaining with state employees so that they can collective work together. With health insurance costs so high, she would require pooling within job categories to help bring costs down which would help businesses and their employees..

She is disappointed that our good jobs have been replaced by less good jobs and our governor is obsessed with privatization of our state's assets. The toll road deal, compared with those struck by other states has turned out to be a very bad long term deal for Indiana that will cause millions of dollars to leave our state.

Jill Long Thompson knows that environmental concerns are important and do not necessarily hurt economic development - in fact they can help.

She has had the experience of not only serving in Congress, but as an Under Secretary of Agriculture responsible for a ten billion dollar budget and seven thousand of employees. By focusing on issues she is capable and competent to move our state in the right direction. Her educational background goes way beyond both Jim Schellinger and Mitch Daniels.
